Installation of a Teleco SHM602 system in the tower of the Engineering School of Bologna University

A Teleco SHM602 system composed of 4 biaxial sensors TSM02 and a Storage and Control Unit TSD10 has been installed in the tower of the Engineering School of Bologna University. Four traditional piezoelectric single-axis accelerometers have also been mounted in the same locations as the new sensors and will remain in place for a few months for comparison purposes. The data generated by the SHM602 can be accessed via Internet and will be used in the development of advanced Errors-in-Variables multivariable identification algorithms as well as in the evaluation of the performance of new digital MEMS-based SHM systems with respect to those of traditional analog systems.

The building where the Engineering School of Bologna University is located is one of the masterpieces of the Italian architect Giuseppe Vaccaro (1896-1970) and has been inaugurated in 1936. The height of its tower is 45m; it contains a part of the books of the Paolo Dore library of the School.
